Meet The Doctors
Dr. John T. Bender
Dr. John T. Bender is a 1985 graduate of Auburn University, and 1989 graduate of UAB School of Optometry. He has been married to his wife, Karen, for 32+ years, and has two grown children, Shelby and John Thomas.
He is a Veteran of Operation Desert Storm, serving in the Air Force during that time. After his stint in the Air Force, he joined Eyesight Associates of Middle Georgia, a large multi-doctor, multi-location surgical and full scope eye care group in Warner
Robins, Georgia. He moved to Enterprise, Alabama in 1998 and has been in private practice since then. Bender Eyecare was established in 2006 as a solo Optometric practice.
Dr. Bender enjoys fishing, gardening, hay farming, riding horses, and tending to his chickens. He is a musician and has played in church and bands all of his life, and currently is playing bass at County Line Baptist Church. He enjoys all aspects of full scope Optometric practice, but especially enjoys the children and the older segment of his patient population. He has been practicing for 32 years.
Dr. Mason Childers
Dr. Mason Childers is a native of the small town of Skipperville, AL. He is a 2010 graduate of George W. Long High School.
Dr. Childers graduated from Auburn University in 2014 with a degree in Wildlife Management and Ecology. After a year in the wildlife management field in South Carolina, Dr. Childers returned to school to pursue his Doctorate of Optometry. He graduated from the UAB School of Optometry in the spring of 2020. It was during his time at UAB that he met his incredible wife Giselle, also an Optometrist.
Dr. Childers has an interest in fitting specialty contact lenses, but he enjoys the wide array of patients he sees on a daily basis.
Dr. Ima C. Betterman Weevil
Dr Ima C. Betterman Weevil, new to the Enterprise area has joined the team at Bender Eyecare.
Bender Eyecare founder, Dr. John Bender fell in love with the small town feel of Enterprise, AL and thought it to be a great place to raise children so he decided to settle in here and founded the practice in 1998.Dr Ima C. Betterman is open 24/7 for pictures and advice. At night you can see his lighted eye chart! The large glasses that he is holding can also be seen day or night as they GLOW in the dark!
He always has a smile for all of the patients and gladly welcomes all who drive into the parking lot. He will watch over you as you leave to assure that you get to your car safely and is also available for pictures.
